Artist Margaret Owen presents “Summer Gardens in February: An Artist’s Painting Process” on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 7pm in the Champlin Program room of the library. Owen’s slide presentation will document the course of an artist’s idea through to a finished painting. Her slides include sketches, reference photos, documentation of her garden paintings at various stages in their development as well as paintings by other artists that she has studied to inform her own work.
This is Owen’s third presentation for the Weaver Library. Owen did undergraduate work at the University of Georgia then went on to the NY Academy of Art, which offers a traditional graduate program in painting. Today she paints, teaches classes, and keeps a blog where she posts not only her thoughts, but also every painting, watercolor or drawing she is working on, sometimes a different painting each day. “It’s been very helpful,” Owen says about the blog, permanentmagenta.com. “I’ve made so many more paintings because of it.” In 2012, Owen began traveling with her friend Canadian painter Elizabeth Hutchinson to lead painting workshops in Morocco and France. She recently had an exhibition ~ Inside Nature: Paintings by Margaret Owen~ at the BankRI Galleries.
This presentation will speak to painters, artists, and anyone needing a beautiful reprieve from winter.
