Feria del Libro y Las Artes de Providence (Feria) returns on Saturday, October 1 at Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA). The popular Arts and Literary Festival, now in its third year, takes place during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Writers, visual artists, musicians, and dancers will gather at a one-day event for discussions, readings, book sales, and performances of Latino arts and culture. This year, Feria, an annual event founded by Providence Community Library, has merged with Feria Artisanal (the yearly Latin American Artisans’ Fair organized in collaboration with AS220) and features arts and crafts available for purchase. Feria has partnered also with the Providence Latin American Film Festival to offer a movie as part of the program. Feria will take place 9:30am-7:00pm. at PCTA, 41 Fricker Street, Providence. Entry is free.
Mirror with a Memory is an exhibit of works by the artists and craftsmen who have taken back the chemical and physical qualities of the photographic medium. Photography as a medium has always been driven by the needs of the consumer, pushing companies to change to the medium to make their products faster, cheaper, and easier. These changes were rarely dictated by the wants or demands of the artist, but for monetary concerns. Since the rise of digital imaging, there has been a push back from a new generation of photographers that seek a tangible object; something that can be held, touched, and treasured.
FabNewport's New Season is Here!
First, thank you for a great summer. We had nine wonderful weeks of summer programming: six weeks of Skunk Works; a week each of 3D Printer Camp and Wearables for Girls. We wrapped up the summer with three days of professional development with Newport Public School teachers, thanks to funding from the Rhode Island Foundation.
The Maker Party and Screening of Most Likely to Succeed was a hit. More than 200 people turned out for fun, food, and film. And we got great coverage in The Newport Daily News the next day.
The 3rd Annual DESIGN WEEK RI is about to begin! Rhode Island’s annual showcase of local design talent and design impact, featuring speakers, tours, panels, parties, and more!
